Eric Petersen is the Program Director for the MTRAC Innovation Hub for Advanced Transportation, a program that facilitates the commercialization of technologies developed at universities throughout the State of Michigan.

Eric has diverse experience in entrepreneurship, corporate strategy / M&A, engineering / product development, project management, marketing, production and government relations.

Prior to joining U-M, he served as Vice President within Rolls-Royce’s effort to expand into the nuclear power industry, and led many efforts at Chrysler and Mercedes in product planning, vehicle engineering/development, marketing and mobility/electrification. Most recently, Eric founded an Ann Arbor-based startup called “AutonomousSafety” which develops drone systems for use in emergency response.

Eric received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the U-M – Dearborn and his M.B.A. from the U-M Ross School of Business.  Additionally, he has studied in related areas such as energy and transportation policy, urban planning, and technology commercialization.

Outside of work, Eric has served as a design judge for the Formula SAE competition and has led teams of MBAs in pro-bono consulting engagements with two non-profits: An incubator which progresses sustainability-themed startup companies and a group that promotes transportation and land use policies that support walkable, inclusive and transit-oriented communities.
