Ken Nisbet, Associate Vice President for Research – Technology Transfer, has strategic and operational responsibilities for all technology transfer activities at the University of Michigan. Ken and his team work with U-M researchers to develop promising research discoveries into technologies that can be licensed to existing companies and new start-ups. Working with our business, venture, government and community partners, these technologies enhance our economic vitality and our quality of life. Under his leadership, the University of Michigan has achieved substantial growth in tech transfer performance and established a reputation as one of the leading tech transfer offices in the nation.
From 1996 to 2001, Ken was Director of New Business Development within U-M Tech Transfer where he was responsible for creating new business start-ups with U-M technology.
Prior to coming to the University of Michigan, Ken had over twenty years of experience in the commercial sector within engineering, finance, marketing and management roles at Ford Motor Company, Digital Equipment Corporation and Nortel. Ken also was a co-founder and president of Memorybank, Incorporated, a storage systems provider and was a director responsible for business start-ups at Trinova’s (now Eaton) Corporate Technology Laboratory in Ann Arbor.
Ken holds a BSME and a MBA, both from the University of Michigan and has played leadership roles in many community organizations, including Ann Arbor SPARK, the IT Zone, New Enterprise Forum, Great Lakes Entrepreneur’s Quest (now MiQuest), and Wireless Washtenaw.
